Harry Potter is Back — This Time as a Play

Harry Potter is Back -- This Time as a Play

As most of us experienced growing up, we were able to see a glimpse into a different world; whether it was through the books, the movies or the Orlando resort, we saw the wizarding world through the eyes of Harry Potter.

It all began in 1997 when J.K. Rowling came out with her first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. As the series progressed, the books were picked up by Warner Brothers and took off in the movie industry. Now, with seven books and eight movies, Rowling’s fans were left wanting more. Until now. On June 26, 2016, the eighteenth anniversary of the first book being released, it was revealed that the play, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, would be coming to stage in mid-2016.

In the July of 2016, the book were released through paper and ink as well as on stage in front of hundreds of people at London’s Palace Theater. The play is split into two different acts, with a longer intermission, giving plenty of time in between acts. The story takes place nineteen years after when the seventh book was finished, now with Harry (Jamie Parker) as an employee of the Ministry of Magic and a father to three children. No matter how much he tries to escape his past, it always seems to catch up with him, putting him in the middle of the past and the present. As Harry is struggling with keeping the past in the past, his son, Albus (Sam Clemmett) is cursed with the family legacy — the legacy he never wanted to adopt (harrypottertheplay.com).

The play has brought up mixed feelings from the fan base, as some are overjoyed with the fact that there’s another glimpse into the mystical world of Harry Potter. On the contrary, others feel like the story should have ended at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is bringing most of the “Potterheads” back to their love for J.K. Rowling’s stories. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is bringing all the fans back to Hogwarts.
