    Keeping The Tradition Alive

    Saturday December 3rd marks the 10th anniversary of Light Up Lakewood. This amazing event is made possible by LakewoodAlive with the help of many local businesses. Light Up Lakewood celebrates the holidays and the lovely scenery of Lakewoods downtown area. This family friendly event is free and is located in the heart of Lakewood’s downtown area on Detroit Avenue. Light up Lakewood features a parade, lighting ceremony, winter fireworks, live music, ice carvings, hot chocolate, food trucks, games and the local stores are open to shop. 

    “Light Up Lakewood is our signature community event and we’re thrilled to welcome thousands of Lakewoodites and visitors from across the region yet again,” said Ian Andrews, Executive Director of LakewoodAlive. “Whether you’re feeling the spirit of the holiday season or simply wish to enjoy a festive urban atmosphere, perhaps no event better showcases our city’s vibrancy than this long-standing Lakewood tradition.”

    Light up Lakewood isn’t just fun for little kids and families. Every year they announce a festival king and queen. To become a king or queen you apply and write an essay. Six finalists get selected to be interviewed then the committee will choose one King and one King to be announced and crowned at the ceremony, they get the privilege to light up the annual tree and the two recipients receive a 500 dollar college scholarship.Overall this is an amazing outdoor event that shows the true spirit of the holidays and joins Lakewood together as a community to have a fun-filled night.
