This weeks athlete is gymnast Caitlin Cimino.

Caitlin is a junior at Lakewood High School and a 3-year varsity all around competitor for the winter gymnastics team. She also goes to Great Lakes Gymnastics almost every day of the week both to practice and work, and has been a gymnast at that elite club gym for about 10 years now. Caitlin balances the two all year long, and somehow still manages to find time for track in the spring. She has already begun training for the spring track season working with Coach Toole to pole vault for the school. She recently suffered a slight ankle sprain ultimately resulting in a few missed practices and meets, but she is back and ready than ever for Northeast Ohio Sectionals on February 19th. I asked Caitlin a few questions about the season so far and the team:

“I’d say we’ve had a pretty good season overall. This year I really feel like the team is closer than ever especially because there’s only 8 of us. I love everyone on the team and will miss the seniors a ton next year, I just hope we can recruit some new girls to join next year. If no one joins I’ll be the only senior, and we definitely cannot let this team die out.”

Caitlin being the only junior on the team was kind enough to put together senior night for the 4 seniors on the team, and the whole squad really appreciates everything her and her mom do for the group. Can’t wait for Caitlin to kill it at Sectionals representing LHS gymnastics!
