    What are Quiverfulls?

    What are Quiverfulls?

    Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD:
    and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
    As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man;
    so are children of the youth.
    Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:
    they shall not be ashamed,
    but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

    Psalm 127:3-5

    This bible verse is most tied to the Quiverfull movement. They are fundamentalist Christians whom believe in the idea of large family, extremely conservative values, and a patriarchal family structure.

    A prime example of this is the Duggar family. They were the object of a show called 19 Kid and Counting. They practiced the idea of conservatism to a tee. They worked as strong anti-gay advocates and were treated as the epitome of the movement for years. Though they never identified as part of the movement.

    The movement is based also in the idea of anti-feminist values. Praising the father was only a single tier below the heavenly father and is a dominion over the mother and the children. Women adopt the caregiver and sometimes teacher role to the children.

    Faces of the movement call the large families as creating “an army of God.” Those try to have a high influx of children. They keep isolated and never teach the concept of contraception.

    Many see the group as macabre and corrupt due to the controversies surrounding the founder, Doug Phillips. Also with incidents within the Duggar family where their oldest son confessed to molesting several young women when he was a teenager. Some of which were his own younger sisters.
