Autumn is known for its crisp air, vibrant leaves, and sweater weather. Of course, it is also the time of year when pumpkin patches, hayrides, and other diversions begin to pop up everywhere  – including Cleveland. In fact, the city and its surrounding areas are home to unique and classic fall festivals and activities.

For most, one of the first images that comes to mind when thinking about autumn is apples. This is in large part due to the popularity of apple picking for people of all ages. According to Ohio Apples, Patterson Farms and Hillcrest Orchards are just a couple of the numerous, local apple orchards in Northeast Ohio. Most farms grow different types of the fruit, some for pies and some for snacking, so don’t be afraid to pull out a cookbook.

Another popular fall pastime is, of course, hayrides. Northern Ohio Tourism suggests Spooky Ranch’s haunted hayride for thrill-seekers, with “monsters, ghouls and danger lurking in the foggy mist.” For a more family-friendly adventure, Ramseyer Farm in Wayne County has a classic hayride, a corn maze, farm animals, and more! Plenty of other haunted and regular rides pop up in the fall months, so keep an eye out while traveling through the farmlands of Ohio.

Of course, autumn would not be complete without Halloween. Fanatics of the holiday have most likely already begun to design their extravagant jack o’lanterns for next month, but what the icing on the cake is finding the perfect pumpkin to carve that design onto. Luckily, there are hundreds to choose from at dozens of locations. Just a few include Heavenly Hill Farm, Regal Vineyards, and Mapleside Farms, according to Pumpkin Patches and more. Don’t be afraid to grab a few pie pumpkins as well to make some tasty treats!
