    Turtles All the Way Down

    Turtles All the Way Down

One of the most influential authors to grace the stage of young adult literature is unarguably John Green. All over the world, his work has touched the harts of people of all ages. His novels consists of An Abundance of Katherines, Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns and The Fault and Our Stars. The latter two have been made into major motion pictures starring actors and actresses including Ansel Elgort, Nat Wolff, Shailene Woodley, and Cara Delevingne.

With his last book out in 2012, fans have been anticipating the release of another one. Finally, the wait will be over on October 10, when Turtles All the Way Down will be released.

The title does not offer much insight into the content of the story. However, after listening to Green speak at Cleveland’s Writers Center Stage, the meaning of the the phrase “turtles all the way down” is clear. It derives from the fictional story of a man giving a presentation on the universe. A woman attending says that everything the man is saying is wrong, and that the earth is on the back of a giant turtle. When asked what was under the turtle, she simply said “another turtle” and that it was just “turtles all the way down.” The idea is meant to be a metaphor for numerous astronomical concepts.

In Cleveland, Green also read the first chapter of the new book (editing in front of the audience as he did). He discussed the basic premise of the novel, which will be about a young man suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, something that the author has experienced himself.

John Green has already sign tens of thousands of copies of Turtles All the Way Down. Many have already been claimed by loyal fans through pre-orders, and, given Green’s popularity, the book is sure to fly off the shelves.
