    LHS Boys Soccer vs. St. Ignatius

    On Saturday, October 28th, an emotional battle took place between two top high school teams, the St. Ignatius Wildcats winning 2-0. Despite the frigid weather, fans traveled to Brecksville high school, with blankets and hand warmers, to witness the play-off game.Anticipation was high for victory as the boys create a hype video for the upcoming games–only three away from the State Championship.

    With two minutes left in the first half, St. Ignatius scores a goal from the 50 yard line, surpassing Lakewood goalie, George Hericks. Following the 1-0 score, Lakewood plays with increased aggression, consistently taking shots on the opposing goal to even the board. Despite the effort, St. Ignatius scores another goal with 5 minutes to go in the second half, leaving the score 2-0. All Lakewood senior were on the field in the remaining minutes–living their last moments of playing high school soccer.

    The boys draw their season to a close with a wave to the crowd and a tweet stating “Great season and good luck to the wildcats.” Even though the varsity team exits Brecksville High School with a loss, they exit with all heads held high–grateful for the memories, the victories, and even the losses together. Senior, Isaac Karel, states “Although we lost and it is tough to walk away, I am glad I had the chance to have played with my best friends the past 12 years. This may be the end of our time on the field, but not the end of our friendships.”

    The LHS Soccer Team accomplished a multitude a victories this season–finally reclaiming the City Cup against St. Edward High School after 5 years and spending 12 years on the team together.
