    Local Christmas Shopping in Lakewood

    Local Christmas Shopping in Lakewood

Lakewoodites are always looking for a new way to support their community, and this often includes purchasing goods at local stores. Christmas shopping is another great way to do this, and the many shops in Lakewood offer unique options for any family or friend.

Lion and Blue has been around since 1996, according to its website, and sells “fair-trade and hand-made” items such as scarves, instruments, candles, clothing, jewelry, purses and wallets, notebooks, ornaments, and more. It is located almost directly across from the Marc’s Plaza on Detroit Avenue, and is well-known and loved by many locals. With such a wide variety of potential gifts,  it’s an obvious, local option for Christmas shopping

Campbell’s is just a few blocks down from Lion and Blue, and cells sweets and treats sure to please everyone. They are perhaps most well-known for their delicious popcorn, which can be bought in classic flavors like butter, white cheddar, or kettle corn, or more wacky flavors such as french toast or beer cheddar. There is also a wide variety of cupcakes and chocolate-dipped items such as Oreos, marshmallows, and gummy worms, perfect for the foodie in your life.

Hixon’s has been a Lakewood holiday favorite for over 50 years, according to the store’s website. While they sell many vintage products, they are most well-known for their huge variety of ornaments. From birds to flowers to Halloween spiders and pumpkins to Christmas trees, snowmen, and more, there is an ornament for everyone to be found.

Aside from these and other permanent shops in the city, Lakewood is also home to two “pop-up” shops, both on Detroit a little further east than the Marc’s Plaza. One is the Home for the Holidays Pop-Up Shop, which sells locally crafted lotions, kitchen materials, baby clothing and accessories, salsas, and more. Further down the street, near Aladdin’s Eatery, you’ll also find BLK LB, selling Lakewood gear for every lover of our city. Pop on down to these shops while you still can, because they will close after the holidays!

Although many head to the mall or large shopping centers for their Christmas gifts, buying from a local vendor means giving a more unique gift and supporting the community. Overall, it will make our corner of the world a little bit closer and prosperous.
