“The Sailor” by Jack Wynn

My lady death and darkness

She has come unto me

To speak of trite misfortune

As we travel oe’r the sea

The Ocean grey and listless

The whole world pale and still

The sea knows she has wronged me

And she cannot break my will

The music of the waves

Fades in with the high tide

I cannot leave my wooden island

I could not if I tried

For I have kept myself for the ocean, the ocean cold and wide

But it is for gold, and gain thereof, that I have died.
