Louisiana teacher’s arrest shows a broken system

Louisiana teachers arrest shows a broken system

Teacher from Louisiana asked a question during a meeting. She was arrested because she dared to publicly challenge a Louisiana school board and superintendent.  Deyahsia Hargrave, who teaches English language arts, Rene A. Rost Middle School, stood up at a meeting to express her displeasure about a raise the superintendent would be receiving.

“A superintendent or any person in a position of leadership getting any type of raise, I feel like it’ a slap in the face to the teachers, cafeteria workers, and any other support staff we have.”

As Hargrave continued voicing her concerns, a city Marshall hired by the school distract removed her from the meeting.

At the end of all of this the school board approved Puyaus’ raise to $140,188, a salary boost of 27%.

Ever since Hargrave’s arrest spread around the world, the superintendent received death threats. He will not answer any further questioning about it.

She ended up releasing a video thanks people who supported her after bonding out of jail.

I don’t believe they had to take it that far. As she said “By silencing my voice they have taken away, or tried to take away, My first amendment rights to speak.” She should have been asked to sit down and told that they can discuss this at another appropriate time. She did not deserve to be cuffed for the simple questions and statements she had.
