    Beck Center: The Fairy Doll

    Beck+Center%3A+The+Fairy+Doll

The Beck Center Dance Education department will be performing The Fairy Doll on Saturday, March 17, at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday, March 18, at 1 p.m. This performance will take place on the Mackey main stage and costs $12 for adults and $10 for students, according to the Beck’s website.

The ballet, which was first performed in Russia over 120 years ago, has a simple plot for audience members of all ages. It takes place in a doll shop and begins with shoppers looking at and watching the various dolls (the Old-Fashioned Doll, the Tea Party Doll, German Dolls, and more) dance. When the shop closes, the Fairy Doll changes all the dolls into humans, and then it’s time for the rest of them (mostly cultural dolls such as French, Chinese, Japanese and more) to perform like real people instead of a jointed doll.

Performers will be mainly members of Beck Center’s Dance Workshop and Junior Dance Workshop companies, with select dancers from Beck’s dance classes performing the parts for younger children. Before the Fairy Doll begins, the Dance Workshop will perform excerpts from the classical performance Paquita, a ballet about Spanish gypsies.

The Fairy Doll was originally created by Nikolai and Sergei Legat, and Beck’s version will also include choreography by Beck’s Associate Director of Dance Education, Melanie Szucs. The music for the show was written by Josef Bayer, Tchaikovski, Gottschalk, Liadov, and Drigo.

The Beck Center dancers have been working hard on this performance for months, so don’t miss your chance to see it and buy tickets before they sell out at https://sa1.seatadvisor.com/sabo/servlets/TicketRequest?eventId=1193949&presenter=BECKCENTER&venue=&event=&version=&tck=true !
