    We Need Change.

    We Need Change.

On Saturday March 24th, one of many marches took place in the Capitol of The United States. In Washington, an estimated 800,000-2 million people gathered together to protest gun violence in our schools.

Among the crowd, teachers, parents, and students alike supported one cause: stop the violence.

A shooting that took place on February 14th, 2018 was marked as a turning point for many. Student representatives at Stoneman Douglas High announced the march four days after this horrible tragedy.

In the weeks leading up to the march, many school walkouts took place all over the country and some were even nationwide.

Lakewood High has participated in the school walkouts. However, the first walkout was student planned and was not really supported by the school. Although not supported by the school entirely, Lakewood did not stand in the way of the student up-standers.

In my opinion, I agree that we need stricter gun laws and should enforce gun safety classes. However, I do not think that arming our teachers would be a good idea. In fact, I think it’s one of the worst ideas to come out after this tragedy.

I believe that we should have increased security such as metal detectors, identification card scanners, possibly even bag searches for those who raise suspicion.

No I don’t think that guns are horrible and we need to get rid of all of them. When in responsible hands, shooting is actually quite fun to do or watch.

These changes are meant to make our lives safer at school, not harder. So the students who get an attitude when the teachers tell you to put your ID on, just do it. It’s not that big of a deal.
