The Lakewood Rangers boys’ varsity baseball season is upon us. The Rangers had two scrimmages, one against Eastlake North and one against Girard. The Rangers looked very good in the scrimmages, winning them both.

The boys’ first game was monday March 26, 2018 vs Valley Forge. The Rangers came out and played good for the first regular season game. The boys won the game fourteen to zero.

Junior James Morrissey pitched against Valley Forge. He was throwing a perfect game through three and a third. James pitched the whole game and only gave up two hits.

The Rangers were scheduled to play Amherst on Tuesday March 27, 2018. Amherst was the 2017 conference champions, with a few of their starters returning. The game got canceled due to rain, but it will be rescheduled to a later date.

The Rangers up coming games this week are Berea-Midpark on Wednesday the 28th, Bay Village on Friday the 30th, and Uniontown Lake on the 31st. The team is hoping to play all of the games scheduled but the forecast calls for rain. The Rangers are also trying to reschedule the Amherst game for Thursday the 29th.

The baseball team has a 27 game schedule. Two of the games Lakewood has are at Westerville Central located right out side of Columbus and they usually make a good run in the playoffs.

The Rangers this year are a very senior driven team. The boys have ten seniors and six juniors. This is one of, if not the biggest senior class Lakewood baseball has had.

The Rangers have a big season coming up. They have a chance to do something special with the big senior class this year.
