    Lakewood Girls Track Season

The Lakewood High School track team has had their season cut short due to the cold, wet weather. The first meet was supposed to be in late March and two other meets have been cancelled since. This leaves the junior varsity team only three meets left in their season.

There are high hopes for their next scheduled meet, this Wednesday, April 11th. This meet was originally supposed to be held at Westlake High School, however due to an issue with their track, it has been moved to Lakewood.

The team hopes to finish this meet with a win, however, the most important thing is to get their first meet over with to prepare for the remainder of the season.

Their biggest home meet, Ranger Relays, is this Friday, April 13th. This event is sponsored by Lakewood Kiwanis and includes anywhere from 5 to 10 other teams. Each event is turned into a relay including field events. For example, the top three heights from pole vault will be added together to giving that relay a single score.

Medals will be awarded to the top three relays from each event and a podium is used to announce and present the awards to the athletes.

The varsity team will travel to multiple invitational meets on the weekends to finish out their season. The varsity Southwestern Conference preliminaries and finals will take place the second week of May.

Qualifiers from the finals will go to Districts the following week. If any athletes make it out of Districts their season will continue with Regionals the next week and States the following week.
