Lakewood High School is full of many different clubs. One of the newer clubs that is offered here at LHS is a history club.

They started meeting just under a year ago and meet after school, every Monday.  Most weeks they meet somewhere in the school building, however they occasionally meet at Lakewood Public Library’s main branch as well.

This club was started with the help and assistance of Dr G. He teaches Advanced Placement US History, which is also known as APUSH. History Club was founded by one of Dr. G’s former students, Faiza Manaa. Faiza is a senior here at Lakewood High School and she has a great passion for history.

They discuss a wide spectrum of topics. From Samurai warriors to racial discrimination in the housing market.

During the meetings at the school, in the past,  they have discussed many different things, such as, the United States Confederate monument controversy, and during Black History Month they discussed black inventors.

During the meetings at the Lakewood Public Library they have talked about the individuals from Lakewood that served in World War II, women participation in the military, Vietnam and the Cold War, as well as Abraham Lincoln.

Dr. G. and Faiza are both very passionate about this club and would love to see many new faces at the next meeting. This meeting just happens to be today, April 18th, after school in C314. They will taking an in-depth look at what is going on with the conflict in Syria.
