    New Superintendent

    Jeff Patterson has been Lakewood’s superintendent since August 1, 2011. Michael Barnes was the former Assistant Superintendent of Mayfield City School District is now taking over as the new Superintendent of the Lakewood City School District. This was approved on March 28th during an important meeting.

    Dr. Barnes earned a doctorate degree in Leadership & Organizational Development from Nova Southern University, a master’s degree in Secondary School Administration from Cleveland State and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Edinboro University. He began his career as a Social Studies teacher at Mayfield High School for 11 years. He was later hired as an assistant principal at Euclid High School. Then after two years, he became the assistant principal at Charles F. Brush High School for a year.  After that he returned to Mayfield as Director of Athletics and then became the assistant superintendent.

    Board Vice President, Linda Beebe, was especially in Dr. Michael Barnes favor and said that “He is service oriented and collaborative. He is committed to supporting the needs of every child and educating the entire child. He is a leader for the 21st century.”

    The announcement of Jeff Patterson’s retirement so early in the year gave the board a good amount of time to find a perfect candidate for this job. Luckily, the Board of Education found the most fit candidate for this job just in time.

    Dr. Michael Barnes signed a three-year contract to be the Superintendent of the Lakewood City School District. Jeff Patterson has been the Superintendent for seven years and retirement date is July 31, 2018.
