    Senior Night Blowout

    Senior+Night+Blowout

On Sunday April 22nd, The Lakewood Girls’ Rugby Team took on the Amherst Ladies of Steel.

It was senior night for the Lakewood girls, who then had a recognition for all five seniors and their parents.

Parents and seniors walked through a tunnel of Amherst players out onto the field while plans for their futures were spoken over the loudspeaker. They then shook hands with the coaches and the building principal.

To start off the game, Lakewood did their war cry. Then set up to receive the kick off from Amherst.

Lakewood had their minds made up to win this game for their seniors and themselves. They hadn’t  had a win yet.

Right off the bat, Lakewood scored the first try of the game within the first five minutes.

About ten minutes after the first try, Amherst managed to get one try on the board also.

But it wasn’t over. That’s what the team told one another.

Although Amherst has never really been a structured team, they had numbers. Which meant they could roll in substitutes when they needed them.

However, Lakewood does not have very many numbers this year but the hard work and dedication that these players have make up for it.

Seniors Layana Perry, Saher Hamdan, and Michelle Majewski put multiple tries on the board for the team. Along with many other girls who scored their first ever tries.

One memorable play in the game was when Lakewood was on defense. It was the second half and the Rangers were up by plenty.

Senior Michelle Majewski interrupted Amherst’s back-line and stole the ball to run a full field try.

Bystanders and teammates were blown away by her play.

Let’s see what Lakewood has left in store for us as we near the end of the season.
