    Baseball Senior Night

    Baseball Senior Night

On Friday April 27th, 2018 the Lakewood Rangers varsity baseball team took on their cross town rival St. Edward high school. Before the game there was a tribute to the basketball team and head coach Alex Cammock for their most winning and exciting season in Lakewood basketball history. Also, the parents of all the seniors and the seniors themselves were honored and had their names and plans after high school announced.

After all the pre-game festivities were over, the game finally began. The Eagles didn’t waste anytime and got three men aboard and scored one of them to jump out an early 1-0 lead. However, that didn’t last very long when the Rangers came to bat. They scored two of their own in the bottom half of that inning and made it a 2-1 lead of their own.

The bats were electric for both teams to start the game as Lakewood responding did not phase St. Edward in any way. They added three more runs in the top of the second off a ball hit off the very top of the wall in right.

To think that this would take the Rangers out of the game would be foolish. They came to bat with the same energy if not more than St. Edward did. A Blake Setta home run scored two for the Rangers and they added an additional run to make it 5-4 in the bottom of the second.

From that point on the Eagles couldn’t score a run until the top half of the seventh inning. They threatened a little bit, but couldn’t pull anything more together as the Rangers collected three more runs throughout the game including a clutch two run single down the line in right by senior Jared Naida. The final score of the game was 8-6.

It was a night to remember for all the coaches and seniors involved in that game, and something for the underclassmen to take with them and cherish as they prepare for the next time they get to play them.
