On Friday, September 7, Malcolm McCormick, also known as Mac Miller, was found dead at his Los Angeles home.

The twenty-six year old rapper had been tweeting things such as “I just wanna go on tour” and “The show is going to be special every night. I wish it started tomorrow.” the day before his death.

Miller’s death was suspected a drug overdose, but more information won’t be available until the lab tests and reports are released, which can take weeks or months.

Miller had been very open about his struggles staying sober, which is why his death had been such a shock to his close friends and family.

Miller had been trying to turn his life around by making an effort to stay sober. Back in May, he’d been arrested for a DUI after his breakup with Ariana Grande, who he had been dating for two years.

His death had an effect on so many people in his life, between friends, family, and fans. Not only a friend of Miller, but fellow rapper, Diego Leanos, known professionally as Lil Xan, had gotten two tattoos as a memorial to Miller and his legacy.

The first tattoo was placed just above his eyebrow, reading “Memento Mori” translating to “Remember that you will die.”

The second tattoo, another facial tattoo, was designed to look like tears dripping down his face. Turning off Instagram comments after the criticism from his last post, he captioned this photo, “I do this for me, I could care less if this makes me ugly because that’s what I was going for, Ugly is the new Beautiful, well not really but there’s some truth to that, I love you guys.”

A public vigil for Miller had been planned in a local park in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This vigil was held in Frick Park, better known as Blue Slide Park, on Tuesday, September 11 at 5 p.m. Thousands of tearful fans had gathered to leave messages as a tribute to the late rapper.

Many are mourning the loss of Miller, especially because of the suddenness of his passing.
