Ron Lewis

AP Government teacher Ron Lewis is a proud Lakewood High School alumni, class of 1989. Lakewood has always been a part of Lewis’s life as he has five older brothers who also graduated from Lakewood. He is very appreciative for the teachers he had when he was a student and he jumped at the chance to teach at Lakewood and is very committed to making an impact in the lives of his students.

I sat down with Lewis and asked him about his time at Lakewood. His responses can be found below.

Q. What is your favorite thing about Lakewood High School?

A. “The students. I understand how lucky I am to teach such great kids and I take that responsibility seriously. It is an awesome feeling to wake up each morning and know that you get to go to work with young people who are bright, motivated and want to learn. Then, when they come back to visit after graduating and relay all of their accomplishments–it is truly rewarding.”

Q. What is your favorite thing about teaching government?

A. “The subject matter impacts us everyday–laws that require you to attend school, obey speed limits, pay taxes, etc… whether we are interested on government or not. At some point each of us will have an interaction with government that, I hope, we can relate to our time in Government class. I enjoy making those connections between what is in the book and what is happening in the real world. Also, the past few years have made it an exciting time to be a government teacher. President Trump has pushed people to be more passionate about government (either for or against his policies) than in the past.

Q. What are you most looking forward to this school year?

A. “The AP Government course and test is new this year and that is a challenge, but one that I am enjoying. I am looking forward to working with and getting to know a new group of students. The midterm elections in November should be fun. My classes are doing a number of projects centered around those elections and that should be a memorable event for this year.”
