Meghan Markle, former actress on the show Suits, and Prince Harry of Sussex married five months ago, and announced on October 15th that they are expecting a baby in the spring of 2019.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made this happy announcement just ahead of their 16-day tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand. Although not a written-in-stone rule, the general expectation of a royal during pregnancy is no traveling at all. Markle and Prince Harry seem to have done this on purpose to avoid at least one of many strict rules under the Crown.

Though Markle may be far along enough to be able to know the sex of the baby, it is strictly prohibited for the public to know the sex before Markle gives birth. Markle will also not be allowed to purchase baby clothes or accessories in neither pink nor blue, just yellow as to keep the baby’s gender held secret. In addition, royal mothers are not allowed to have baby showers as it is seen as inappropriate and flashing wealth.

The Prince and Markle were wed nearly five months ago, but Markle appears to have been pregnant for longer—something unapproved by the Queen. Since the timeline is so tight, no one can be sure if she became pregnant out of wedlock or not, but what is sure—they are strictly abiding by the other classic rules.

Student Connor Starowesky says that,”The Queen said it was an unfortunate situation to be pregnant out-of-wedlock so I hope she doesn’t disown them.”

Although these rules are being broken or may be bent by the time Markle gives birth, the rules seem outdated.
