On Friday, October 26th, the Cleveland Cavaliers head coach, Tyronn Lue, was fired. Tyronn Lue had been the head coach of the Cavaliers since taking over for David Blatt in the middle of the 2015-2016 season. Lue was also the assistant coach for the Cavaliers from the years 2014-2016.

Tyronn Lue was able to take the Cleveland Cavaliers to the finals three years in a row; this resulted in a championship against the Golden State Warriors in 2016. But during last summer, the Cavaliers star, LeBron James, left Cleveland to join the Los Angeles Lakers. This made the Cavaliers have a different strategy heading into the 2018-2019 season.

The plan was to try to play all of their young players as much as possible (including their number eight pick Collin Sexton) while simultaneously trying to compete for a playoff spot. But, Lue also had to juggle giving playing time to the young players along with the veterans. This did not go as well as people were hoping. The Cavaliers started off the season 0-6, losing three games on the road and three games at home. Leading to the Cavaliers owner, Dan Gilbert, firing Tyronn Lue.

The assistant coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Larry Drew, is taking over for the time being. Since his appointment as head coach, the Cavaliers have gone 1-1, beating the Atlanta Hawks for their first win of the season. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes. As Lakewood resident Sofi Dunay says, “Hopefully the Cavaliers will be able to win a lot of games.”
