Just hours after the end of the US Senate election, Republican, Ted Cruz, won Texas Senate after beating Democrat, Beto O’Rourke. The last time a Democrat won Texas Senate was 1988. Many people on social media have talked about the poll race and their opinions of who should have won on social media, but here is what happened on Election Day 2018 in Texas.

Robert O’Rourke, also known as, Beto O’Rourke, came into a close tie with Cruz to be the next Texas Senate. O’Rourke, a native El Paso, was elected to United States House of Representatives in 2012. O’Rourke has also won the El Paso City Council from June 2005 to June 2011.

O’Rourke was debating whether or not to run for 2018 Texas Senate race. “Political experts consider him the “long shot” candidate,” says Wall Street Journal.

On March 31, 2017, O’Rourke finally announced his candidacy for the United States Senate seat going against incumbent, Cruz (R).

O’Rourke pledged not to accept PAC contributions for his senate campaign. He raised over $2 million within the first three months.  O’Rourke raised three times the amount of campaign funding Cruz raised. “O’Rourke raised the money through a unique strategy of using email and social media, live-streaming his nearly every move in every county of the state,” according to www.thedailybeast.com

Rafael Edward Cruz, also known as Ted Cruz, has been Texas Senator since 2013. He was also a candidate for the Republican nomination for President Trump in the 2016 election.

Many say that Cruz has had major issues during his six-year term of Texas Senate. “He has merged as a top 2016 presidential contender and leading conservative voice in American politics.”  – www.houstonchronicle.com

Once it was official that Cruz was once again the Senator of Texas, making O’Rourke lose his long, tough election, people took to social media to voice their opinions on the ‘Beto vs. Cruz’ race.

Many have even endorsed O’Rourke. Many people thought that this was the finale to O’Rourke actually winning the Senator election. Major influencers from Beyoncé (who is also a Texas native), Lebron James, former CIA director, John Brennan, and many more.

Many fans of O’Rourke were upset that he lost the race and felt that his hard work and dedication towards the election should have been the reason that he won.

After Cruz officially won the election race, O’Rourke went on live TV to give a concession speech. In the speech, he says how he got the chance to give winning opponent, Cruz, a “congrats” on winning the election. He also thanked all who supported and helped him on his long, challenging journey. “Tonight’s loss does nothing to diminish the way I feel about Texas and this country,” O’Rourke told supporters. “I’m so f**king proud of you guys!”
