We Are Living In A Simulation

We Are Living In A Simulation

In the past couple years, Elon Musk has come out saying he believes we are in a simulation. In an interview on stage at Recode’s Code Conference Musk states, “There’s a billion to one chance we’re living in base reality,”

Elon Musk is a technology entrepreneur, CEO of SpaceX, and known famously for Tesla–the futuristic electric car manufacturer. Meaning, Musk is not just another paranoid conspiracy theorist who believes that the Earth is flat, the moon-landing was faked, and that vaccines cause Autism. Instead, Musk is an educated billionaire engineer who knows what he is talking about.

Musk believes since technology was already evolved so far, one day it will evolve so far to the point of humans creating simulations. Musk explains in the same Recode’s Code Conference that, “If you assume any rate of improvement at all, then games will be indistinguishable from reality, or civilization will end. One of those two things will occur.” So, Musk believes if we are living in a simulation, it’s actually a good thing because that means humanity is still going strong.

I believe that this theory seems more realistic than most theories, and it is an interesting explanation to our everyday mundane world–but I am hesitant to believe it is true.

Many people have mixed feelings on this theory. Lakewood High School student Tyler Williams is skeptical of Elon Musk’s theory. He says, “Although living in a simulation is one possible theory to our existence, I believe it is an unrealistic expectation that we are all programmed on a computer.”
