Attorney General, William Barr, Lies Under Oath

Attorney General, William Barr, Lies Under Oath

After William Barr’s “book report” summarizing the Mueller report was released, he was asked if Robert Mueller disagreed with his report. Barr responded saying he didn’t know if Mueller believed his 4-page summary was an accurate representation of the 400-page report that Mueller released. This contradicted a memo written to Barr from Mueller stating that his summary “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of his report.

Today, William Barr was expected to testify in front of the House Judiciary Committee. After not showing up, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, accused Barr of lying to Congress. “He lied to Congress. The attorney general of the United States was not telling the truth to the Congress of the United States. That’s a crime.”

According to the Washington Post, “Barr informed the committee on Wednesday he would not testify because of objections to Democratic plans to have a counsel question him alongside lawmakers. The same day, he missed a subpoenaed deadline to hand over the full, underacted Mueller report — including demands for underlying evidence gathered by prosecutors.”

House Democrats have discussed plans to press for the contempt of William Barr. However, Barr, as the attorney general, will not enforce a contempt citation against himself. Many wonder where we will go from here.

Lakewood High School senior, Sara Bitter, is concerned with the government right now. “I don’t like that the administration has been continuously accused of corruption, but nobody does anything. This is really scary, and it can get bad quickly.
