Jason Kipnis was an emotional rollercoaster on Monday that ended in a 9-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox and included his first multi-hit game since April 21.

It also featured a pregame encounter with local law enforcement as Kipnis was pulled over in his car for speeding along Interstate 90 on the way to Progressive Field. The veteran infielder posted a series of short videos to his Instagram account during the encounter which resulted in the officer letting him go with a warning but not before complimenting him for his work on the field.

Kipnis drove in Cleveland’s only run of the game, after the game he said he considered ways to seek out the officer again to thank him for the extra motivation.

“After two of the hits I was thinking about speeding back up and down until he got me again so I could thank him,” Kipnis said. “But I think I’ll just drive the speed limit now.”

Kipnis is hitting .571 (4-for-7) with two outs and runners in scoring position this season. He has four RBI in that situation, including a base hit to right against Chicago’s Ivan Nova that drove in Jordan Luplow. In his career against Nova, Kipnis is batting .600 (6-for-10) with a pair of doubles and two RBI.

Kipnis said he thinks Monday helped him figure some stuff out at the plate that will get him going in the right direction. The 32-year-old hit .200 with a .502 OPS and three RBI in 12 April games after missing the start of the season in the injured list with a right calf strain. He says he was happy with his at-bats.
