    Tariffs’s Effect on Walmart

    Tariffss+Effect+on+Walmart

Walmart wants to raise its prices of certain products due to tariffs. Walmart is also America’s largest retailer.  The tariffs were raised by Donald Trump. He raised them on Chinese goods, and everyone knows that over half the stuff in your house is things from China.

Walmart financial supervisor Brett Biggs told the press that they want to keep their prices as low as they can because that is who they are. We don’t know exactly which products are going to go up in price quite yet, but they are working it out and are trying to figure out which products it will be.  Biggs told us that they are trying to come up with strategies so that they don’t have to change the prices of their products.

Although over half of Walmarts earnings come from groceries, they still don’t want to have to raise prices of other products from China.  Most of Walmart’s food products come from America and South America. So they don’t really have to worry about the prices of the food.

But Walmart still gets around twenty-six percent of their products from China and this is a big deal for Walmart cause this means they might lose many of their usual sales.

This tariff is not specific to only Walmart, every retail store sells products that are exported from China. Just certain stores do it more than others. Target imports 34% of its products from China.

Retailers really count on China in their supply chain. China accounted for about 41% of all apparel, 72% of all footwear, and 84% of all travel goods imported into the United States in 2017.

Sean Teets said, “I hope my Yugioh cards don’t go up in price.”
