18 Years Since 9/11

September 11, 2001 a tragedy struck across the United States.  Almost 3,000 people were killed from terrorist attacks. From the World trade Center to the Pentagon to a field in Pennsylvania planes struck all three. It has been 18 years and there are now upcoming adults that were not alive for the event.

The attacks were a series of four planes, each having a target. When the two planes struck the World Trade Center only 18 people survived. The other plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. People tried to take control of the other hijacked plane and crashed in the field as a result after hearing about the other attacks. In the past 18 years the United States has taken action. For some of us we have become custom to the idea that anything can happen. Whether it is a shooting or an attack it is something we have had to always be prepared for.

Right after the 9/11 attack we went to war with Afghanistan and we are still to this day at war with them. It was only in 2011 when Osama bin Laden was shot and killed. He was the head of the terrorist attack on 9/11. His son, Hamza bin Laden, was also killed in the U.S. before February 2019 according to NPR.

A student at Lakewood High School, Miabella Doerr, said, “I was born because when the attack happened my mother thought how at any given day the world could end and she wanted to have kids before it was too late.”

Kids nowadays are told stories of what happened on that day. We grew up just knowing that a tragic event happened on September 11, 2001, but soon it is just going to be something the majority of adults did not experience. It will be a historical event in the books.
