The Lakewood High School Dance Group will be putting on their annual showcase of student choreography next week on February 13 and 14. Entitled “Dance the Night Away,” the performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Civic Auditorium at Lakewood High School. Pre-sale tickets (available for purchase in the LHS Book Room) are $2 for students and senior citizens and $4 for adults. The prices will go up to $3 for students and senior citizens and $5 for adults on the day of the show.

Because of their different backgrounds and experiences, students (some self-taught and others with formal training) have incorporated a variety of dance styles into the show, from hip-hop to lyrical. All of the dances will be done to a wide variety of music, including some from Whitney Houston, Shawn Mendes, Hozier, and Kesha. There truly is something for everyone!

The dancers have been working for months to perfect their dances, whether they be large group dances, trios, duets, or solos. After tryouts in the fall, each dance typically meets for a half an hour after school each week to learn choreography, space the routine, and clean the piece.

Some highlights of the show include a senior-only dance, opener and closer routines featuring all the dancers, a couple of senior solos, high-energy tap numbers, swing duets, and a multitude of kicklines.

These dancers have put in so much work into choreographing and learning their dances, and they cannot wait to share all they have learned with the Lakewood community. Stop by the Civic at the end of the week to see them perform!
