Abbie Tuleta is a senior here at Lakewood High school and plays on the Varsity hockey team, although she did play softball as well. She has no past history of hockey but decided to pick it up her senior year. She has been thinking about it since she was a junior. Her position is Forward and she plays it very well. If you see her on the ice she’ll be wearing the number fifteen jersey. She is the only female player on a team of all boys but that doesn’t slow her down one bit.

I asked her a few questions to get an inside look at what it’s like for her in the sport.

When did you start playing hockey? “I started playing this year”.

How did it feel when you made your first goal? “It was against Westlake and I felt like I could do anything in the world. It felt so good especially because all the boys jumped on me and cheered so loud for me”.

What is it like being the only female on the team? “It’s actually been the best experience. The boys make me feel as one and we all mess around like brothers and sister. They have made me feel so welcome on the team and always teach me new things. They always have my back and always cheer me up”.

The hockey team is very supportive of each other and they work hard to be the best they can be. The team is just as close off the ice as they are on it.
