Lakewood’s School District Helping to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

Lakewoods School District Helping to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

In the news, a big topic has been the Coronavirus. It started in China and it has spread worldwide.  The symptoms are close to the symptoms of the flu and similar to pneumonia. Many cities including Lakewood have been doing things to help prevent the spread of it, and these actions spread to the Lakewood City School District.

The district has been working with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) to help “reduce the risk of spreading the virus,” according to Chris Mosby, from Patch Staff. They have been provided with basic advice to help keep the safety of the students.

The advice is the same as how to not catch a cold- washing hands more frequently, disinfecting areas that have germs, and not touching the face or putting hands anywhere that could spread the germs and infect you.

Staff have also been instructed to sanitize equipment with anti-viral solutions. They have also said that extra hand sanitizers have been provided in the cafeteria, so students can use some before they eat since that’s how it could spread.

There have not been any cases of COVID-19 in Ohio yet, but just recently a man in Washington died from the virus. Parents were advised to “report if the child has any respiratory illnesses” such as the flu, so that the district staff could see what other ways they need to sanitize and track it.

A lot of people in Lakewood have been getting sick, but it seems they have the flu. A student from Lakewood High School, Miabella Doerr, says, “I hope that the little efforts the school district is making will help prevent most students from getting sick.”
