With our schools closed due to social distancing, we have been missing out not only on hearing our lectures in person, but also on our clubs, sports, and after school activities. The musical was cancelled, people aren’t playing sports anymore because they can’t go outside, and clubs are not meeting because they don’t have a school setting to meet in. However, the LHS News Club is still running during this difficult time, providing a news show filmed by its members from home.
Last week, the members of this club were contacted by the club advisors and they were asked if they could film clips of the news show from their homes. They immediately accepted, filmed, and sent their videos to their advisors for editing. On Friday, everyone got the chance to see the announcements on their Lakewood City Schools email, and see what a wonderful job was done by each member in order to provide something for the students to see.
On the news show, students can find important information and dates about graduating seniors, the SAT and ACT (college preparatory exams), as well as encouragement to ask for help related to their schoolwork and technology issues if they are struggling with these two. And lastly, LHS News wants to highlight the Lakewood High community of pets, so they’re expecting a lot of pet pictures from students in the upcoming days, and you can send one too!
Many teachers and staff members have highly appreciated the news show and have sent positive feedback to the members of the crew. They appreciate the fact that the crew has taken the time out of their day to film the clips despite the load of homework and Zoom meetings they are obligated to commit to. They say that small gestures like these are the ones that keep the school spirit alive.
The News Club will continue to deliver a news show every week until the school year ends, so get ready for more announcements in the near future!
