Holidays in the Times of Covid

    Holidays+in+the+Times+of+Covid

As the weather gets colder and the holidays approach, it is a great time to be surrounded by friends, family, and loved ones. But now, with a pandemic going on and no sign of a vaccine before the end of the year, we are forced to acknowledge the discomforting reality of not being able to see those who mean the most to us.

We all know the holidays are stressful enough, with all the running around trying to find the perfect gift, baking the best cookies for friends and coworkers, and of course, a pandemic isn’t going to help.

So what are we to do? Just not celebrate? The holidays are supposed to be about more than materialistic values. It’s a time to reflect on your love for all the people who stood by you through the year.

Sophomore Sadie Gregg gives her opinion on a pandemic holiday: “You don’t need to be surrounded by family for them to know you love them. Just a call, text or letter will make their day! It best to keep everyone safe.”

While going out to shop for presents to give out, probably isn’t the best idea as there will be lots of people out spreading germs and contaminating merchandise, there are loads of other great ideas for presents that will express how much you care about the people in your life and keep you safe!

    First, get crafty!

Homemade gifts are the best presents. They show that you obviously really care about the person who is receiving the present because of the time it takes to make personalized gifts. Key chains, necklaces, or any form of art that speaks from the heart will surely be an excellent gift for any loved one.

Online orders are also a great and efficient way to purchase gifts without taking up a lot of time. Etsy is a great website to find all different types of gifts while supporting local artists. They have everything from jewelry to home decor, to baby clothes!

Remember, the holidays are supposed to be a time to rejoice and celebrate family and friends. Try not to get too overwhelmed and enjoy the season!
