Joe Bidens Climate Plan- Do We Have a Second Chance?

U.S President-elect Joe Biden’s climate plan could potentially reach the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5C

So far, our world has warmed 1c pre-industrial times due to human activity and we are likely to pass the 1.5 mark by 2030. In order to stabilize the tempature, emissions must reach net 0 and stay there.

This will be one of the biggest challenges for Biden as many of the big polluting corportations will need to switch to using renewable energy as their main source of power by 2050 if we hope to keep the 1.5c mark.

Biden’s climate policy aims for a 1.7 trillion investment in clean energy and green jobs, which could potentially create an estimated 10 million jobs for Americans.

The Climate Action Tracker, which is a non-profit analysis group that tracks government climate action, says Biden’s plan could potentally reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75 gigatons.

Senior Makayla Sharpe says, “There is a lot more hope for our world now that Biden is president.”

But it’s not all up to the U.S.

In order to reach the 1.5c goal, China, the world’s largest emmiter of carbon dioxide,  must continue its pledge to go carbon-neutral by 2060. This will be quite challenging as China must switch to non- emission sources for power and then spread this clean engery use wherevery possible.

Currently the world is set to warm 2.7c by the end of the century, which will bring more extreme storms, heatwaves and droughts across the world.

But the CAT gives us all hope by saying reaching net zero is in our grasps if we stick to Biden’s climate plan. But we all must do our part if we wish to keep our earth healthy and beautiful.
