How The Sunrise Movement is Helping Direct Biden’s Climate Policy

How The Sunrise Movement is Helping Direct Bidens Climate Policy

As we get closer to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden,  we anxiously await to see his final line-up for the presidential cabinets and staff. But that’s not the only thing we are counting down for… the race to beat climate change is getting close to the finish line and the people Biden chooses to put in power will have a great effect on if we win this race.

The Sunrise Movement, created in 2017 by the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (UNCCC), is trying to get leaders who stand for the health and well-being of people elected as a part of the Biden team and they have seen many accomplishments recently.

You may ask, how does the Sunrise Movement ensure leaders who genuinely care about the well-being of the planet and the people on it are elected? Well, located on their website, the Sunrise Movement offers plenty of petitions to sign that demand Biden chooses a cabinet who has no corporate lobbyists or ties to fossil fuels.

Deb Haaland, a Congresswoman from New Mexico, has recently been nominated to lead the Department of the Interior as well as the white house climate shop. She has received much support from the Sunrise Movement to help her get this position.

Together, Deb Haaland, former head of the EPA Gina McCarthy, and former secretary of state John Kerry, push for goals that will help fight against climate change and actually make a difference.

The Sunrise Movement aspires to put an end to climate change, an end to the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives, and an end to all the horrific destruction we have done to the planet, all while improving well-paying jobs for Americans everywhere.
