The Lakewood basketball team ended last season with a loss to North Royalton to make their record 12-10. The team begins  the new season on Friday November 30th against John Marshall.

The team is looking towards the leadership of senior forward Pete Nelson who will plans to bring home a conference championship this year, the first since 1974.

Nelson has done many things for the Lakewood program such as breaking the most three pointers made in a single game, season, and career . When asked about breaking any other records Nelson said, “I don’t care for breaking any records as long as the team wins, but if I finished with the all-time career scoring record , that will be nice.

When asked about his experience towards basketball Nelson had to say that he has been playing the sport ever since he was five. He has been an instructor in camps such as the world-renowned Coach Svetz’s React Basketball Program.

He has also competed in college showcases and plays AUU in the offseason. Nelson said that he owes a lot to basketball.  He says that it has taught him some of life’s greatest lessons.

“It has taught me to deal with failures, accept criticism, be a leader, and what perseverance really is.

After high school,  Nelson plans to play collegiate basketball at a military academy or in conjunction with a strong Army ROTC program.

He believes that this upcoming 2012-2013 season that the team will be a lot fun to watch. The goals are to win the conference championship and beat St. Edward in the regional tournament.
