Though the Lakewood cheerleaders only cheer on the football and basketball teams during the fall and winter seasons, their commitment is needed year round.
Currently, basketball season is coming to an end, as well as the cheerleader’s regular season. Little do people know, the cheerleaders compete in their off season up until tryouts in April. The competition team is made up of current members of both the Varsity and Junior Varsity squads. The girls practice executing dance, jumps, and tumbling, especially for competition season.
“We work really hard to perfect the routine and do our best to keep up with the competition,” says varsity captain Sam Dreistadt. “It’s a lot different from the material people see us do on the football field or basketball court. The pace is much faster, and it’s definitely more intense difficulty wise.” co-captian Regina Satayathum adds.
The Lakewood Cheerleader’s next competition takes place at Chardon High School on Sunday, February 24th. Time of performance is to be announced.
