Swimmers excel in new conference

The boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams had an impressive showing in their first West Shore Conference championship meet, including record-setting performances by our divers, a conference champ among the girl swimmers and an overall runner-up finish by the girls’ team at the meet held Jan. 25 & 26 at Lakewood High’s pool.

Congratulations to divers Jim McMahan and John Liber, who finished one-two, respectively, both with record-breaking scores. McMahan scored 419.1 and Liber 396.3. Kudos also to Sarah Neff, who claimed the conference crown in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:26.7, and helped power the team to a second-place overall finish behind champ Rocky River.  Olivia Lawrence was a conference runner-up in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:25.49 and the 200- and 400-yard free relays also finished second. Lawrence and Neff, along with Maddie Mahoney and Grace Bulchik comprised the relay teams.

The boys’ team finished third overall, led by the divers and two runner-up performances by Peter Schleckman in the 100- and 200-yard free with times of 52.06 and 1:56.63. Rocky River and Bay finished 1-2 in the overall team scores.
