Last Sunday night, February 26th, the 89th annual Oscars took place in the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This years Oscars was an eventful night, with the movie La La Land tied with movies Titanic and All About Eve for the record for the most Oscar nominations at 14. Meryl Streep also set the record for the most Oscar nominations for an actress and actor with 20 nominations with a nomination for Best Actress for her role as Florence Foster Jenkins in Florence Foster Jenkins. There also was the mistake of naming La La Land Best Picture, while Moonlight was the true winner.

This year’s biggest movie with the most nominations, La La Land, was able to win 5 Oscars out of 14 nominations. The movie won for Best Original Music Score by Justin Hurwitz, Best Cinematography by Linus Sandgren, Best Production Design by David Wasco, Sandy Reynolds-Wasco, Best Director Damien Chazelle and Best Actress Emma Stone. This was Damien Chazelle’s first ever Oscar and he is now the youngest director to ever win the Best Director Award, at the age of 32. This was also the first Oscar for Emma Stone with only one other nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the movie Birdman. La La Land also was announced to have won the Best Picture, although it turned out that the the announcer read the wrong thing and the movie Moonlight had actually won the award.

This year’s Oscar’s were very eventful, with new records for nominations and different awards, and a mistake like no other, this year’s Oscars is one to remember.
