Burke Fortner is a junior at LHS. He is on the swim and baseball teams. I asked him questions about his baseball career and got an inside look on his perspective of the sport as one.

Q: How long have been playing baseball?

A: I began playing t-ball at 4 years old and haven’t stopped since then.

Q: What position(s) do you play?

A: I play second base for the high school and for my summer league I play second base and outfield.

Q: When is the first game of the season and who is it against?

A: Our first game is today, Wednesday, March 29 2017 against Berea-Midpark (away) at 4:30.

Q: What do you expect this year for your team?

A: I expect great things. Hopefully ending up at states.

Q: Do you plan to play in college?

A: No because I want to focus on my education.

Q: What is your favorite thing about baseball

A: The excitement the game brings.

Q: Do have any advice for younger players?

A: Don’t let your dreams be dreams.

Q: Who is your favorite baseball player and who does he play for?

A: David Freese, he is the third baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

As I mentioned before Burke also is a swimmer for Lakewood and was just announced one of the captains for the next season. I wish the baseball team the best of luck and I hope to see all of the fans at the games to support the Ranger’s season.
