    Emma Yonkers

This week’s person of the week is Senior Emma Yonkers. Emma is heavily involved in many of the activities Lakewood has to offer finishing her senior year with a very impressive track record. She was a four-year varsity member of the gymnastics team which she also does outside of school for 14+ hours a week at North Olmsted Gymnastics. Emma has been doing gymnastics since she was in sixth grade, a total of 7 years as an award-winning gymnast. I asked her for some highlights from her years at NOG and Lakewood and she said “Getting third at states for club, getting 1st all around at the Kalahari Invitational, and also scoring a 9.75 (out of 10) at the Excel Gold State Champs meet a few years ago.” She recently had her last club practice a few weeks ago and is still pretty heartbroken about leaving the team she has spent so much of her life training with.

Besides gymnastics, Emma also participated in Rangerettes for two years, as well as being Student Council Student Body Publicist, National Honors Society Secretary, and juggles a check-out job at Heinen’s in Rocky River. Her high school career has been very successful and she is sad to leave LHS but Emma is definitely onto bigger and better things. She plans to attend The Ohio State University in the fall to study Early Childhood Education. I asked her if she plans to continue gymnastics in college and she said she is hoping to join the club or intramural team they have at the university.

She also mentioned picking up other fun intramural activities to stay in shape, since gymnastics has been her life 24/7 she still wants to stay active.
