    Harper + Strickland Brawl

    Harper + Strickland Brawl

During the eighth inning of Monday night’s game, all-star outfielder Bryce Harper decided to charge the mound at reliever Hunter Strickland for hitting him in the hip area with a 98 mph. In his choice for doing so it cleared both of the benches and started a new issue that was not previously there.

In the 2014 playoffs between the Nationals and Giants, Strickland faced Harper two times and both of those times Harper hit two home runs off of him. Since it was three years ago and the Giants went on to win that series Harper thought it was way in the past and wasn’t  taking that into consideration coming up to bat on Monday night. In an interview after the game Harper said, “I wasn’t really thinking about it at all. But when somebody comes at you like that, throws a 98 mph fastball where he did, I wasn’t very happy with it and took it into my hands and tried to go after him.

The manager from the Giants had a few words about the incident and even admitted that it doesn’t look good. He stated, “When you have a guy like Strickland who has given up some home runs and he’ll tell you he wasn’t trying to come in, didn’t want to make a mistake there. But it looks bad. So you have two guys who probably don’t care too much for each other.”

In the end of it all, it looks like it is basically cleared up and nothing more will come about it. However, if these two do meet in the future again don’t be surprised if something does come about the situation.
