Cleveland Browns 1st Round Draft Recap

Cleveland Browns 1st Round Draft Recap

Thursday was a big day for the Cleveland Browns.  After an exciting offseason that included additions of Pro-Bowl Wide Receiver Jarvis Landry, and Cornerback Damarious Randall, this draft has a real chance to be a turn around moment for one of the leagues most troubled franchises.  Armed with two selections in the top five the Browns were ready to add some real talent to their roster.

With the first pick of the draft the Browns selected Quarterback Baker Mayfield out of Oklahoma University.  Mayfield was very successful during his time in college, winning the Heisman Trophy last season.  There were concerns about his maturity and antics on and off the field but GM John Dorsey fell in love with Baker’s accuracy, ability to extend plays, and make throws both in and outside of the pocket.

With the fourth pick Cleveland selected Cornerback Denzel Ward out of Ohio State University.  Ward has been flying up draft boards ever since the combine, as the consensus best corner in the draft, where GMs all around the league were very impressed with Ward’s athletic ability and ball skills.  Denzel is expected to be a day one starter with the team in a secondary that was short on talent last year.

The Browns hold the 33rd and 35th picks in the second round and are looking to add more star power to their roster which hopefully will result in wins.  Mayfield and Ward look to be good picks that fit needs the Browns have, but draft position and all the hype won’t matter if  they can’t contribute.
