How music helps you focus.

How music helps you focus.

Are you ever in class listening to music and you get yelled at for having headphones in. You say that the music helps you focus. The teacher always then responds with, “No it doesn’t, you just want to listen to music,” or “You just think that.”

In the article “Does music really help you concentrate?” by Dean Burnett, it gets more in detail with the topic. He states how the beat stimulates your brain activity.

“Experiments by Maria Witek and colleagues reveal that there needs to be a medium level of syncopation in music to elicit a pleasure response and associated body movement in individuals.” In the article Dean adds this statement to prove that there have been some research about this statement.

Stanford of Medicine gives some valid information about music helping you focus. In the article “Music moves brain to pay attention, Stanford study finds.,” written by Mitzi Baker. They say “The researchers attempted to mimic the everyday activity of listening to music, while their subjects were lying prone inside the large, noisy chamber of an MRI machine. They found what they called a “striking” difference between activity levels in the right and left sides of the brain during the entire transition, with the right side significantly more active.”

When you work you need to find the music that makes you think better and faster. The music you choose can be different then the person next to you. Whatever stimulates your brain is best for you.

Personally the music that helps me focus the most is very loud rap which is kind of weird, but it helps. I figured that out one day and I got so much of my work done and once you find your music, that will help you too.

You want to make the music something where you like it but not a song that makes you want to get up and dance. If you get up and dance, then that kind of defeats the purpose.

If your teacher ever comes up to you again and says something about you listening to music, send them to the facts from this article.
