    Spooky Pooch Parade Soon!

    Spooky Pooch Parade Soon!

The 11th annual Spooky Pooch Parade is coming! Every year since 2007, canines and their owners gather at Kauffman Park to show off their Halloween spirit. For a pre-registration cost of $10 for each dog and $15 for registration the day of, owners can enter into a pooch costume contest, participate in dog yoga and walk in the parade. Parade, however, is a generous word–considering it’s just a few blocks in downtown Lakewood.

This year’s Spooky Pooch Parade will be held on October 20th, and will begin at Kauffman Park behind Discount Drug Mart. Beginning at 12:30, vendors arrive to feed hungry pets and humans alike, while tents for rescue groups and kids’ games set up. After registration, the aptly named ‘Doga’ will commence from 1-1:45 (although you don’t have to register OR pay to participate in FREE yoga). Then, starting promptly at 2 o’clock, dogs dressed up in their favorite spooky costumes participate in the Spooky Pooch Parade down Detroit Avenue. At the end of the parade, around 3:15, judges will award prizes in the following categories: Best Dog and Child, Best Dog and Adult, Best Dog and Group, Spookiest Pooch and Best in Show.

As one of the only events of its kind, the turnout is amazing. Last year’s Spooky Pooch Parade drew a crowd of an estimated 2,500 people and a registered 350 canines.
