The famous American comic book writer, editor, and publisher Stan Less who had worked for the world-famous Marvel comics has died at age 95.

His world-famous comics have sadly come to an end. Mr. Lee was rushed in an ambulance from his Los Angeles house on Monday morning to Cedars Sinai Medical Center where he had later be announced dead with the cause of death being pneumonia.

For many years, the comic industry had been dominated by DC Comics, which if you didn’t know, are the creators of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Green Lantern. In the 60’s, Lee was asked to come up with a team of superheroes to compete with DC’s Justice League. Marvel revitalized the comic industry with a series of human superheroes. They were superheroes lived in the real world, a few were even based in the famous New York City and they all struggled with typical, everyday challenges.

The first one he created was Fantastic Four, a superhero team. After they got such a huge success rate from Fantastic Four Marvel, Lee then introduced characters such as Spider Man, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, X-Men, and Daredevil. These new superheroes were created within the span of three years. These were hugely popular and Marvel then became bigger than DC. Even though all of these amazing superheroes were popular, Spider Man became the world icon.

Lee had become more of a company figurehead rather than a writer and editor. He became the company’s editorial director and publisher in 1972. He had also filed a lawsuit against his former company, Pow Entertainment in May for two workers allegedly trying to steal his identity. The company has later announced that the lawsuit had been dismissed by Lee. Stan Lee was a living legend and will be missed by many.

Even our Lakewood High School students feel strongly about his death. Lakewood’s own Alexander Blinky said,”This is very saddening, he was a great writer and he was loved by many of the Marvel Universe.”
