Lakewood High School may not be known for their athletics in the most recent years, however the class of 2019 sure has talent. Five student-athletes have signed so far: Tim Smith, Tommy Sala, Zion Darby, Jordhan Kieres, and Eliza Richardson all are going to continue their athletic careers while at school.
On Wednesday, November 14th, it was National Signing Day, so during the five soon to be collegiate athletes lunch periods, they signed. Each student got to pick a few close friends to watch them take a big step into their futures.
Three young men from the boy’s basketball team are planning to continue playing: Tommy Sala committed to Nova Southeastern located in Davie, Florida, Tm Smith committed to University of California in California, Pennsylvania, and last but not least, Zion Darby has committed to Fairmont State University located in Fairmont, West Virginia. All three are extremely talented young men and are getting ready for their upcoming senior season, looking to advance on to states. Last year, the team had tied for conference champions with Olmsted Falls, and only hope to improve from there.
Aside from basketball, the girl’s soccer team is happy to be sending senior goalie, Jordhan Keires off to Bellarmine to continue her athletic career. Bellarmine is located in Lousiville, Kentucky, and is lucky enough to accept an amazing athlete and student such as Jordhan.
Finally, Eliza Richardson, senior captain of the girl’s volleyball team is continuing her career at Ohio Wesleyan University, located in Delaware, Ohio. She will be competing along-side her older sister, Amelia Richardson who graduated in 2017 from Lakewood High School.
Eliza Responded described her signing as, “An exciting day for me and the other students signing. I am eager to move forward and play at a college level. Especially because I will get to be with my older sister.”
Wherever the students may be going, and whatever they play, good-luck to them and all the other young athletes who got to partake in National Signing Day.
