Last Saturday the greatest rivalry in all of sports took place at the Horseshoe, in Columbus. Going into the game, the Wolverines were favored by three points on the road against the Buckeyes for the first time since 2004. Whoever won this game would clinch a spot in the Big Ten Championship against 19th ranked Northwestern.

In the first quarter, the Buckeyes came out firing as they took an early lead on a 24 yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave to make it 7-0. After a late field goal, Michigan cut the deficit to 4, making the score 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.

At the beginning of the 2nd quarter, Michigan kicker, Jake Moody kicked another field goal to make it 7-6, but the Buckeyes came right back and scored a touchdown of their own to increase their lead by 8. The Wolverines defense was ranked 1st in the country and the Buckeyes had no problem scoring throughout the game. Ohio State would go on and score 10 more points before halftime, but Michigan had a couple answers for the Buckeye defense as they scored 13 points to make it 24-19.

The third quarter was when Ohio State made some key plays to pull away from Michigan. After a blocked punt return for a touchdown and an interception deep in Michigan territory, the score was 41-19.

The game was ultimately out of reach for Michigan. Dwayne Haskins and the Buckeye offense wore out their defense and hung up 62 points on the Wolverines. Ohio State’s 62 point effort is the most points ever scored by either team in this match up. Senior Tommy Sala said, “That was the best offensive performance I’ve seen all year by any team in the country.”

Quarterback, Dwayne Haskins had a huge day passing for 396 yards and six touchdowns. The Buckeyes now travel to Indianapolis to play Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship.
