    Lakewood’s State Champion

    Lakewoods+State+Champion

This past Saturday, March 2nd, was the indoor track state meet at Spire Institute; athletes from all across the state went to compete. Of those athletes competing Cormac Kramer, Christina Auck, and Tyler Hannah represented Lakewood–and they definitely made us proud.

Kramer placed 18th in the 800 M, Auck placed 15th in shot-put, and Tyler Hannah placed first in the 60 M hurdles–a huge achievement and milestone for Hannah. Everyone in Lakewood is excited or these athletes and their futures.

Hannah recalled his experience when speaking about his win by stating, “I remember when I stepped into my blocks for the first semi-finals…[I was] talking to myself, constantly reminding myself that it was not just a regular race–but instead a state championship…I remember Coach Dow shaking my hand, looking me in the eyes, and saying, ‘Remember, you want this more than anyone else out there..so go get it.’ And [in] that small moment, I knew something very special was about to happen.” An extraordinary moment for a young man who works incredibly hard; Hannah will continue his academic and athletic career at Ashland University this fall.

Coach Stephanie Toole commented on Auck’s performance by saying, “Christina put in a lot of off-season hard work, especially lifting with Coach Wally Grossman. She improved her throw almost 4′ from last spring….” She ended her statement by saying, “We are very proud of her and looking forward to her upcoming seasons.” Auck will continue to work hard and push herself to her senior season.
