The Lakewood varsity baseball team is off to a good start.

The varsity team is coached by, Mike Ribar (head coach), Tim Labar (pitching coach), Brian Leroy, and newest coach Grant Graves (hitting coach).

Varsity baseball has practice six days a week. Practice locations change depending on the weather and gym availability. For now, since it is still very cold outside, practices are in different gyms. As soon as the weather breaks, practice will be outside.

The first scrimmage is scheduled to be on Saturday, March 16th, against Eastlake North High School. Scrimmages are used to really get a feel for playing real games, and for all the players to get in their grooves. Many pitchers are used, and players are switched out to different spots frequently.

The first game for the Varsity team is on March, 23rd, facing Fairview High School. The Lakewood Baseball program has an advantage over other programs. Lakewood has a turf field, this allows the team to play even if there might be rain or snow. The turf absorbs the water quickly, unlike grass and dirt of a regular baseball field.

Coach Ribar, along with the other coaches and players, feel very confident about this years baseball team.

Nola Baker, a junior baseball player at Lakewood High School says, ” I am really excited for this season, we’re going to beat everyone. No cap”!

Jared Yocabet, a senior baseball player at Lakewood High School says, “We’re a solid fundamental team this year, we should have no problem being dominant over the other teams”.
